Bologna to Give Part of Postponed Match Proceeds to Flood Victims
Funds to Aid Recovery
Bologna announced it will donate a portion of the proceeds from its postponed match against AC Milan to help victims of the devastating floods that have lashed central Italy.
Match Rescheduled for January
The match, originally scheduled for September 25, was postponed due to safety concerns after heavy rain and flooding ravaged several regions, including Marche and Veneto. Bologna said in a statement on Thursday that it would donate a percentage of the proceeds from the rescheduled match to aid recovery efforts. The match will now be played on January 17.
Club's Statement of Solidarity
Bologna president Joey Saputo expressed the club's solidarity with those affected by the floods.
"Our thoughts are with the people who have lost loved ones, their homes, and their livelihoods," Saputo said. "We want to do our part to help them rebuild their lives and communities."
Support for Victims
The floods, caused by torrential rainfall, have left at least 10 people dead and displaced thousands. The waters inundated homes, businesses, and infrastructure, causing widespread damage and disrupting lives. The Italian government has declared a state of emergency in the affected areas.
Other Aid Initiatives
Bologna's donation is the latest in a series of initiatives by Italian football clubs to support flood victims. AC Milan has announced a collection drive for donations, and Juventus has pledged to donate €100,000 to the Italian Red Cross.
