Can Russians receive two supplements to their pension for working in the North?
The expert answered the question
Lawyer, head of the practice of the Eureka legal service Yulia Verbitskaya told whether citizens of the Russian Federation who have worked in the Far North and equivalent areas can count on two supplements to their pension. The specialist explained that there are two main types of allowances for pensioners from the regions of the Far North and equivalent areas.
Supplementary insurance pension
This is a fixed monthly payment that is established for citizens who have worked in the Far North for at least 15 calendar years or in equivalent areas for at least 20 calendar years. Also, this right can be obtained by those who were involved in reindeer husbandry, hunting, fishing and other traditional crafts of the peoples of the North for at least 25 calendar years.
The size of the allowance depends on the duration of work in the Far North or in areas equivalent to it, as well as the duration of the insurance period. According to Verbitskaya, for work experience in the Far North, citizens are entitled to an allowance of 50% of the fixed payment to an old-age insurance pension, and for work in equivalent regions - 30%.
At the same time, the expert emphasizes that the duration of the insurance period is taken into account if it is at least 25 years for men and 20 years for women. If the insurance period is less, the allowance is reduced in proportion to the actual duration of the insurance period, explained Yulia Verbitskaya.
Allowance for seniority in the Far North or in areas equivalent to it
This allowance is established for each year of work in the Far North or in areas equivalent to it. It does not depend on the insurance period and is not established for those pensioners who receive an old-age or disability insurance pension from the state pension provision.
The lawyer added that citizens who have worked in the Far North for at least 25 calendar years or in equivalent areas for at least 30 calendar years are eligible for an allowance of 50% of the old-age insurance pension, and those with at least 20 calendar years of work in the Far North can count on or in equivalent regions - 30%.
Verbitskaya noted that in some cases, pensioners may be entitled to both types of allowance, but the total amount of monthly payments established for work in the Far North or in equivalent areas cannot exceed 75% of the fixed payment to the insurance pension.
