Deadly Russian car crash outside Yaroslavl involves four vehicles
A multi-vehicle crash has occurred on the approaches to Yaroslavl, killing one person and injuring another.
The accident occurred when a VAZ-2107 and a Volvo XC90 collided head-on, according to a statement from the regional branch of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs. The force of the impact caused the VAZ to veer into the oncoming lane, where it was then struck by a GAZelle minibus. A fourth vehicle, a KAMAZ truck, was then involved in the collision.
As a result of the crash, the driver of the VAZ, a 32-year-old man, died at the scene. The driver of the Volvo, a 60-year-old woman, was taken to hospital with serious injuries. No other injuries were reported.
Police are investigating the circumstances of the accident. One line of inquiry is that the driver of the VAZ may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision.
The accident caused significant traffic disruption on the approach to Yaroslavl. Drivers were advised to use alternative routes.
