Marc Marquez is the fastest of all, but he explained why rivals will inevitably catch up with him
The six-time MotoGP world champion is currently recovering from a broken arm sustained in the Spanish Grand Prix.
Despite his absence from the track, Marquez remains the man to beat in MotoGP. He has won six of the last seven world championships and is widely regarded as the greatest rider of his generation.
However, Marquez is aware that his rivals are closing in on him. In an interview with Spanish newspaper El Pais, he said: "I know that my rivals are getting closer and closer. They are working very hard and they are getting better and better."
Marquez identified three key factors that will make it harder for him to maintain his dominance in the years to come:
- The increasing competitiveness of MotoGP
- The emergence of young riders
- His own age
The increasing competitiveness of MotoGP
MotoGP is becoming increasingly competitive, with more and more riders capable of winning races. In 2020, there were 11 different race winners, the most in a single season since 2001.
The increased competition is due to a number of factors, including the development of new technology and the globalization of the sport.
The emergence of young riders
A new generation of young riders is emerging in MotoGP. These riders are not afraid to challenge the established order and they are hungry for success.
Some of the most promising young riders include Fabio Quartararo, Joan Mir, and Alex Rins. These riders have all won races in MotoGP and they are expected to be challenging for the world championship in the years to come.
His own age
Marquez is 28 years old and he is approaching the peak of his career. However, he knows that he will not be able to race forever.
Marquez said: "I know that I am not going to be able to race forever. I am going to have to retire at some point. I just want to make sure that I retire on my own terms."
Marquez is still the fastest rider in MotoGP, but he knows that his rivals are closing in on him. He is aware of the challenges that he faces, but he is determined to remain at the top of the sport for as long as possible.
