Nottingham Forest Beat Leicester City 2-0, Despite Vardy's Goal
A Second-Half Brace by Wood Secures Victory for Forest
Match Highlights
Nottingham Forest ended their poor run of form by beating East Midlands rivals Leicester City 2-0 at the City Ground on Saturday. Chris Wood scored both goals for Forest, who had not won in their previous five Premier League matches. James Maddison missed a penalty for Leicester, who have now lost three of their last four games.
Forest took the lead in the 54th minute when Wood headed in a cross from Brennan Johnson. The New Zealand international then doubled his tally in the 84th minute, converting a penalty after he had been fouled by Wout Faes.
Leicester had chances to get back into the game, but they were denied by some excellent saves from Wayne Hennessey. The Foxes also hit the woodwork twice, through Harvey Barnes and Kelechi Iheanacho.
The win moves Forest up to 13th in the Premier League table, while Leicester remain in 14th.
Reaction
"I'm delighted with the win," said Forest manager Steve Cooper. "We've been through a tough period, but we've shown great character and resilience to come through it.
"Chris Wood was excellent today. He took his goals well and was a constant threat to the Leicester defence.
"We're now looking up the table and we're confident that we can continue to climb.
"It was a disappointing result," said Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers. "We had chances to win the game, but we didn't take them.
"We need to be more clinical in front of goal and we need to defend better.
"We're still in a difficult position, but we're not giving up.
