Nottingham Forest Beat Leicester to End Winless Run as Wood Scores Twice
Vardy’s Goal Not Enough for Leicester
Nottingham Forest put an end to their winless run by defeating Leicester City 2-0 in the Premier League on Monday, with Chris Wood scoring both goals for the visitors.
Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester side took the lead through Jamie Vardy in the 21st minute, after the striker was set up by Harvey Barnes. However, Forest struck back just before the break when Wood headed in Brennan Johnson’s deep cross at the back post.
Forest’s New Zealand international continued his good form in the second half, scoring his second goal in the 72nd minute to seal a deserved victory for Steve Cooper’s team.
The three points lift Forest out of the relegation zone, while Leicester remain 14th in the table.
Wood’s Double Earns Forest Vital Win
Wood, signed from Newcastle in January, scored his third and fourth goals for Forest in this match. His first, a brilliantly executed header, brought his team level just before the interval.
The former Burnley forward was on hand again late on to tap in Johnson’s cross from close range and earn Forest their first league win since October.
Vardy Off the Mark for Leicester
Vardy opened his league account for the season with a close-range finish in the first half. The 36-year-old has now scored 136 Premier League goals for Leicester.
However, the Foxes were unable to build on Vardy’s opener and ultimately paid the price for missing several good chances to score.
Forest’s First Away Win of the Season
Forest’s victory at the King Power Stadium was their first away win of the Premier League campaign. It also ended a run of six straight league defeats on the road.
Cooper’s side produced a determined and organised performance to earn a vital three points and move out of the relegation zone.
Leicester’s Struggles Continue
Leicester’s poor form continued with this latest defeat. Rodgers’ side have now lost six of their last eight league games and are without a win in their last four.
The Foxes dropped down to 14th in the table after Brentford’s victory over Southampton on Saturday.
