Pull into "life": The State Duma opposed the ban on social networks for children

The State Duma Committee on Family, Women and Children recommended rejecting the bill on the ban of social networks for teenagers

The initiative of the deputy from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Nikolai Arefyev was considered at a meeting of the committee on Tuesday. The deputies opposed the adoption of the document, the press service of the State Duma told RIA Novosti.

"The committee members decided not to support this bill and recommend that the document be rejected," the message says.

Earlier, Nikolai Arefyev proposed to ban social networks for children and adolescents under the age of 14. The parliamentarian explained that such a measure will protect the younger generation from the destructive content posted on these online platforms.

In particular, the deputy said, the ban will help protect children from cyberbullying, as well as from attempts to lure them into dangerous games and communities. In addition, social networks often contain information about prohibited substances and methods of committing suicide, Arefyev said.

However, the committee members did not support the initiative. According to them, parents are solely responsible for protecting their children from unwanted information on the Internet. In addition, the deputies noted that the ban will affect primarily responsible adolescents, while teenagers who are prone to antisocial behavior will still find a way to use social networks.
