Lipetsk, Russia - August 15, 2023
Early this morning, six inmates escaped from a penal colony in Lipetsk, Russia. The inmates, all of whom were serving sentences for violent crimes, escaped by overpowering a guard and stealing his keys. They then fled the colony on foot.
The escaped inmates are as follows:
• Ivan Ivanov, 25, serving a 10-year sentence for murder • Aleksei Petrov, 27, serving a 7-year sentence for robbery • Sergei Smirnov, 29, serving a 5-year sentence for assault • Dmitri Vasiliev, 31, serving a 3-year sentence for theft • Mikhail Kuznetsov, 33, serving a 2-year sentence for hooliganism • Aleksandr Fedorov, 35, serving a 1-year sentence for drunk driving
The authorities have launched a massive manhunt for the escaped inmates. They are urging the public to be on the lookout for the men and to report any sightings to the police.
The escape is the latest in a series of security breaches at Russian penal colonies. In recent years, there have been several high-profile escapes from colonies in different parts of the country.
The escapes have raised concerns about the security of Russia's prison system. The authorities have vowed to crack down on escapes and to improve the security of the colonies.
