In a brazen act of defiance, six prisoners have escaped from a correctional facility in Lipetsk, Russia. The inmates, who were serving time for various offenses, managed to break out of their cells and flee the prison grounds early this morning.
Authorities are currently conducting a search operation to locate the escaped prisoners. The inmates have been identified as:
- Ivan Petrovich Ivanov, 25, serving a sentence for robbery
- Sergei Mikhailovich Mikhailov, 30, serving a sentence for assault
- Alexei Vladimirovich Smirnov, 28, serving a sentence for drug trafficking
- Igor Yurievich Kuznetsov, 32, serving a sentence for murder
- Vladimir Ivanovich Popov, 35, serving a sentence for fraud
- Anton Sergeevich Sokolov, 29, serving a sentence for theft
The escapees are considered dangerous and should not be approached. Anyone with information about their whereabouts is urged to contact the Lipetsk Police Department immediately.
The escape has raised concerns about the security measures at the correctional facility. The prison, which houses over 1,000 inmates, has been criticized in the past for its lax security. In 2021, a similar escape attempt was foiled by guards.
The authorities are investigating the circumstances of the escape and have promised to take steps to prevent similar incidents in the future.
