Zaporizhzhia renames two parks: What are the new names?
New names reflect city's history and culture
The city council of Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine, has voted to rename two of the city's parks. Park Yuzhny (Southern Park) will now be known as Park Peremohy (Victory Park), and Park Zhukova (Zhukov Park) will now be known as Park Kniazia Yaroslava Mudroho (Prince Yaroslav the Wise Park).
The new names were chosen to reflect the city's history and culture. Park Peremohy is named after the victory of the Soviet Union over Nazi Germany in World War II. Park Kniazia Yaroslava Mudroho is named after the Grand Prince of Kyiv who founded the city of Zaporizhzhia in the 10th century.
Park Peremohy
Park Peremohy is located in the southern part of the city and is one of the largest parks in Zaporizhzhia. The park features a large lake, a number of walking trails, and a children's playground. It is a popular spot for recreation and relaxation for residents and visitors alike.
Park Kniazia Yaroslava Mudroho
Park Kniazia Yaroslava Mudroho is located in the central part of the city and is home to a number of historical and cultural landmarks. The park includes the ruins of the ancient fortress of Zaporizhzhia, as well as a number of monuments and statues. It is a popular tourist destination and a place of great historical significance.
The renaming of the two parks is part of a larger effort by the city council to commemorate the city's history and culture. In recent years, the city has also renamed a number of streets and squares in honor of historical figures and events.
