Alexander Zverev Becomes First Quarterfinalist at Vienna ATP-500 Event
German Star Dominates in Straight Sets Against Shapovalov
Zverev Continues Impressive Form in Austria
Alexander Zverev has booked his place in the quarterfinals of the ATP-500 Erste Bank Open in Vienna, Austria, after a dominant straight-sets victory over Denis Shapovalov. The German star needed just over an hour to dispatch his Canadian opponent 6-3, 6-3, showcasing his impressive form on the indoor hard courts.
Zverev broke Shapovalov's serve early in the first set and never looked back, controlling the tempo of the match throughout. The German's powerful serve and aggressive baseline play proved too much for Shapovalov to handle, as Zverev converted both of his break points in the set.
In the second set, Zverev continued to dictate the play, breaking Shapovalov's serve in the opening game. The Canadian fought back to level the set at 3-3, but Zverev responded with another break to regain the advantage. Zverev served out the set and the match in style, sealing the victory with an ace.
With the win, Zverev extends his unbeaten run to eight matches. The German has been in impressive form since reaching the semifinals of the US Open, winning the title in Metz and reaching the final in Cologne.
Zverev will next face either Aslan Karatsev or Reilly Opelka in the quarterfinals.
