David Beckham ‘keeping close eye on Leo Messi’ as Inter Miami plot sensational MLS swoop
Beckham's MLS side are understood to be tracking Messi's situation at Paris Saint-Germain amid uncertainty over his future
The Argentine superstar is out of contract in the summer and has been linked with a move to the United States
David Beckham is reportedly monitoring Lionel Messi's situation at Paris Saint-Germain as Inter Miami plot a sensational swoop for the Argentine superstar.
Messi's contract expires at the end of the season and he has been linked with a move to the MLS, with Inter Miami said to be one of the clubs interested in signing him.
Beckham, who is the co-owner of Inter Miami, is understood to be a big admirer of Messi and would love to bring him to the United States.
The former England captain is said to have been keeping a close eye on Messi's situation in Paris and is ready to make a move if the opportunity arises.
Messi has been in excellent form for PSG this season, scoring 12 goals and providing 14 assists in 19 appearances in all competitions.
However, there is uncertainty over his future at the club, with reports suggesting that he could leave in the summer.
Inter Miami are not the only club interested in signing Messi, with Barcelona and Manchester City also said to be keen on the 35-year-old.
However, Beckham's close relationship with Messi could give Inter Miami the edge in the race for his signature.
Beckham and Messi played together at Barcelona for a season in 2003-04 and have remained close friends since then.
If Messi does decide to leave PSG, Inter Miami would be a tempting destination for him.
The club is based in Miami, one of the most glamorous cities in the world, and has a strong squad that includes the likes of Gonzalo Higuain and Blaise Matuidi.
Messi would also be reunited with Beckham, his former teammate and friend.
It remains to be seen whether Inter Miami will be able to sign Messi, but Beckham is certainly doing everything he can to make it happen.
