Driver dies in car fire at the Swan Lake
Emergency crews were called to Swan Lake, south of Perth, just after 9pm on Friday after reports of a car fire.
Upon arrival, firefighters extinguished the blaze, but tragically found the body of a man in the driver's seat.
Police are investigating the cause of the fire, but it is believed to have started in the engine compartment.
The victim, a man in his 40s, was the only occupant of the car.
His name has not yet been released, but police have notified his next of kin.
Swan Lake resident, John Smith, said he heard a loud bang and then saw flames coming from the car.
"I ran outside and tried to help, but the fire was too intense," he said.
"It's a terrible tragedy. My thoughts are with the victim's family and friends."
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
