How the kitten was named? Novosibirsk Zoo chooses a name for the Far Eastern leopard cub
The long-awaited event has happened: the female Far Eastern leopard born in the Novosibirsk Zoo on May 27 has a name!
The zoo staff chose the name "Aurora" for the baby. This name was chosen for a reason: the northern lights are often called the Aurora Borealis, and the Far Eastern leopard is a symbol of the wild nature of the Far East. In addition, the name "Aurora" is consonant with the name of the cub's mother, "Amur".
The birth of the Far Eastern leopard cub in the Novosibirsk Zoo is a significant event not only for the zoo, but also for the entire world population of this rare animal.
The Far Eastern leopard is listed in the Red Book of Russia and the International Red Book. In the wild, there are only about 120 representatives of this subspecies. Therefore, the birth of each kitten is a great joy for zoologists and conservationists.
Aurora is the second Far Eastern leopard cub born in the Novosibirsk Zoo. The first cub, a male named Perseus, was born in 2019. Now Perseus lives in the Moscow Zoo.
Aurora is growing and developing well. She is under the constant supervision of her mother and zoo staff. In the near future, the cub will be vaccinated and chipped.
The Novosibirsk Zoo invites everyone to visit Aurora and her mother Amur. The leopards live in a spacious enclosure with a pool and climbing structures.
