LeBron James to Sit Out Lakers' Preseason Opener Due to Age
Darvin Ham Explains Decision
Los Angeles Lakers coach Darvin Ham has announced that LeBron James will not play in the team's preseason opener against the Sacramento Kings on Monday. Ham cited James' age as the primary reason for the decision.
Preserving the King
James, who turned 38 in December, is entering his 20th NBA season. Ham said the team wants to be cautious with his minutes as he ages.
Balancing Youth and Experience
The Lakers have a young roster this season, with several players under the age of 25. Ham said he wants to give these players an opportunity to play and develop in the preseason.
However, he emphasized that James remains a vital part of the team and will be ready for the regular season opener on October 18.
Other Preseason Plans
Ham said James is expected to play in the Lakers' second preseason game against the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday.
The Lakers will play a total of six preseason games before the regular season begins.
