Zak Brown: The rules need a rethink
McLaren boss Zak Brown believes Formula 1's rules need a rethink after the controversial end to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
The race was won by Max Verstappen, who overtook Lewis Hamilton on the last lap after the safety car was brought out following a crash by Nicholas Latifi.
Hamilton had been leading comfortably but was forced to pit for new tires under the safety car, while Verstappen stayed out on track.
This gave Verstappen a significant advantage, and he ultimately passed Hamilton to win the race and the championship.
Brown believes the rules should be changed to prevent a similar situation from happening again.
"I think the rules need a rethink," he said.
"I think we need to look at the rules and make sure that we have a set of rules that are fair and equitable for all drivers.
"I think we need to make sure that we have a set of rules that are clear and concise, and that are applied consistently by the stewards."
Brown also believes the FIA should consider changing the way the safety car is used.
"I think we need to look at the safety car and make sure that it's used in a way that doesn't create an unfair advantage for one driver over another," he said.
"I think we need to make sure that the safety car is used in a way that is safe for all drivers and that doesn't compromise the integrity of the race.
"I think these are all things that we need to look at and consider for the future."
